Co-created a frame for Oxfam
I helped Oxfam Novib create a narrative to influence the Dutch government to invest in development co-operation.
The problem was that the (right) Dutch political parties were planning to cut down national investments in development co-operation, despite an international promise to invest 0,7% of the Bruto National Income into development co-operation.
With the 2017 national elections, and a new governmental plan for the next 4 years, ahead, Oxfam Novib wanted to tell the politicians and the Netherlands as a whole that development co-operation is a tremendously important thing to fight extreme poverty and guarantee a safe and prosperous world.
Using behavioural psychology and framing as a vantage point, I guided Oxfam Novib to create a narrative that would re-frame development co-operation in the heads of the Dutch. We wrote multiple narratives, and through of a proces of trial and error, selected a final one.
This narrative has been the guiding document for Oxfam Novib communication around development co-operation in 2017. And it has been very successful, with its exact wordings being taken over by politicians and other influencers alike.
